Lake City, Michigan (Monday, January 9, 2017): Merritt Speedway officials in conjunction with the American Ethanol Late Model Tour are proud to announce that the Late Model portion of the 3rd Annual Merritt Showdown will pay $10,000-to-win.
The Merritt Showdown which has fallen midweek in its first two iterations, will again take place away from conflicting dates with other tracks and go off on Wednesday night, June 14. Boasting some of the areas hottest competitors chasing after the title of Showdown champion, 2017 will be no different.
Now a five-time track champion at Merritt, Eric Spangler was the winner of the inaugural Merritt Showdown in 2015 while 2016 AELMT champion, Dona Marcoullier went to victory lane on his way to the title. Overall in four career appearances in Lake City, Michigan, Marcoullier has two of his five career AELMT triumphs at Merritt, both coming in 2016, while Spangler has one and 2015 AELMT champion, Rich Neiser also has one victory, both coming in the inaugural season.
The American Ethanol Late Model Tour, which will be in its third season, has blown up all over the map as the mitten states premier Late Model series. As the sanctioning body of the Late Model portion of the Merritt Showdown the first two years, will again oversee competition in 2017. In addition, the new American Ethanol Modified Tour presented by Allstar Performance will compete alongside the Late Models, as the sister tour ventures into its inaugural year. The brand new Modified tour will also be the sanctioning body for their trip to Merritt Speedway on Monday July 3, when they will also race for a huge $10,000-to-win. Both the American Ethanol Late Model Tour and Modified Tour will additionally compete at the Late City speed plant on Memorial Weekend, September 2 and 3.
Don’s Auto Clinic Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, which is located on North Mitchell Street in downtown Cadillac, Michigan, will return as the entitlement sponsor. Helping to provide race fans with this keystone race year after year, along with bringing in some of auto racing’s biggest names such as Rusty Wallace, Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Austin Dillon, Kenny Wallace and others.
