Today (Saturday, July 1st) is Race Day! The American Ethanol Late Model Tour continues a hectic stretch run through the 2017 schedule after just completing three races in five days. It’s two more races in two days over the Fourth of July Holiday Weekend and it all starts with the one and only appearance at the 1/3 (0.333) mile semi-banked dirt oval of Thunderbird Raceway in Muskegon, Michigan.
The Michigan Corn Growers Association 40 will be the second ever appearance for AELMT at the Tom Sprague owned facility. In the AELMT’s only other appearance at the track located off the shores of Lake Michigan, the “Illini Invader” Rich Bell went to victory lane in this event one year ago. Coming into this weekend, Defending AELMT Champion and current points leader, Dona Marcoullier will look to continue his strong start in 2017 while Eric Spangler sits second in points, 46 markers back and hope to make up some ground on the defending champ.
Brandon Thirlby sits third in the standings and looks to continue his streak of ISKY Racing Cams Fast Qualifier awards, which is now up to three in a row, while Brian Ruhlman and Ryan VanderVeen are separated by just a single point in fourth and fifth. Defending Track Champion, Muskegon’s own, Kyle Borgman will lead the local talent looking to hold back the advances of the traveling invaders of the AELMT.
