Lake Odessa, MI (Thursday, June 20, 2019) - The American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT) is pleased to announce the addition of the 31st Annual WoodTic at Merritt Speedway to the Tour’s 2019 Schedule. The prestigious northern Michigan event will be held on Friday and Saturday, August 2nd and 3rd, replacing the AELMT events at LaSalle Speedway, scheduled for July 20th and 21st, as a result of LaSalle Speedway ceasing operations for the immediate future.
The two-day show at Merritt Speedway will utilize the traditional WoodTic race and pay formats, featuring a $10,000 grand prize for AELMT drivers on Saturday night. The WoodTic, now sanctioned by AELMT, is also part of the Dan Salay Memorial event. Drivers will be competing for lap money and additional bonuses throughout the weekend. More information will be made available soon.
Two AELMT stars have dominated Tour events at Merritt Speedway - Eric Spangler and Dona Marcoullier, whom each have a remarkable four tour wins to their credit. Collectively, the two drivers have won every race at the quarter mile dirt oval, except one; September 6, 2015 when Rich Neiser went to victory lane, in route to claiming the inaugural Tour Championship. Spangler and Marcoullier have impeccable records at the WoodTic as well. Marcoullier has conquered three of the last four WoodTic’s (2018, 2017, 2015), Chad Finley drove to victory lane in 2016. The Lake City, Michigan veteran, Eric Spangler, has multiple WoodTic trophies, dating back to his first, earned in 2005.
The 31st WoodTic is now presented by American Ethanol and will mark AELMT’s second doubleheader weekend at Merritt in 2019, following the July 5th and 6th doubleheader. Both nights of racing in August, begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday’s line-up includes the American Ethanol Late Model Tour, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks and Mini Wedges. Saturday will again feature AELMT, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks, Minni Wedges, plus B-Mods, Lightning Sprints and 4-Cylinders.
